C h e l y a b i n s k

So, I haven't posted in a while because, A. I am trying to fit in as best as possible,
so carrying around my big camera doesn't really say "Hey, don't mind me." and B.  I really haven't done anything crazy, exciting in the past couple weeks.

But I love it here.  I love the family I live with. I love waking up to the little pitter patter of feet in the morning.  The city is great, I am starting to feel, less overwhelmed with everything (the language, the size of the city...etc.)  I think a bit f my confidence boost has been the Russian Language lessons I have been taking.  The language is incredibly difficult, and my teacher says that every Russian speaks the language differently.  So it is not only difficult learning to speak it, but also learning to hear/understand it.

I absolutely love the sunrise and sunset here.  It is silent, yet the rays, and beams pouring in the windows is so vibrant and loud, always there to say good morning or good night.

c h e l y a b i n s k

Two weeks down.

I am feeling settled and adjusted (as much as two weeks will allow).
I love it here.  I love the cold, brisk air.

Life is crazy isn't it.  If you would have asked me six months ago where I would
be in only a few short months from then, I wouldn't have dreamed
of this. ever.

I thought it would be so intimidating... being a new place, knowing no one, knowing very
little about the place, the people, the culture.  and it was at first.  it took getting
my eating and sleeping patterns to a somewhat normal schedule
before I really saw the crazy exciting opportunity that lays before me.

This isn't just an adventure in Russia.  This is feeling a whole lot like
a new chapter.  I am so excited to learn.

wish me luck...

I would rather be ashes than dust.

I would rather that my spark burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.

I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow. than a sleepy amd permanent planet.
The function of man is to live, not exist.
I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.

I shall use my time. (jack landon)

Seasons Change

And So Do We.

It seems as though all great changes are preceded by chaos.

Change is the essence  of life; be willing to surrender who you are for what you could become.

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.

return|returning|returned

Well as some of you may know, I recently returned back to the states from an amazing trip the wonderful, duh duh duh duhnnn NOVA SCOTIA.  It was absolutely wonderful!  The places I went, the people I saw and met.  I had an exquisite  time.  Here are some highlights from my trip....

Busker Festival, where I met this awesome man!

Many nights in Halifax, with friends!  How could you not love this city!?

Days at Rainbow Haven beach!  With the fog rolling in!

Jake and I went to the most quaint little eatery in Mahon Bay for our anniversary.  Followed by the wonderful Lunenberg!

Jake purchased a longboard while I was visiting.  This picture was taken at the Ferry Launch.  The ferry was going to P.E.I.
I loved watching him learn to curve.  I was a bit afraid though.  More for his pride than anything, there where about 50 cars all parked in a line waiting for the ferry, and he was long boarding along side them all.  If he were to wipe out, everyone would have seen!

Jake and I went to a wonderful event entitled "Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City".  It was hosted by Doctors Without Borders.  It was incredibly eyeopening and challenging.  This is a toy from a refugee camp.  Hand-made.  The tour guides all had been abroad and worked at refugee camps, and brought things to show us.  No matter what, with how little or how ever much you have, DO SOMETHING to help impact the world in a positive way, fight hunger, fight HIV/AIDs, sponsor a child, fight thirst, fight abandonment, fight slavery, fight depression/suicide, give someone a chance to succeed, get informed.

... and the wonderful P.E.I. ....

and many many more to come!!!

Prince Edward Island

P.E.I.

P.E.I.
{Charlotte Town in specific}
is such a wonderful place!
So much character in all the homes, the red sand, the handmade wool sweaters, the home of Cows Ice cream, and Anne of Green Gables.  We really had quite the adventure. We took the ferry to get there, and took the bridge home. On this quant little island, I found that I felt secluded from the whole rest of the world. The old-fashioned homes, the brick walk ways, the chill pace of everyone I saw around me.  They say that the best chefs in the world are in P.E.I. and I must say that every place I went, the food was unreal.  One thing I wish I could have done while on my short trip; ride an old vintage bike all around town.  If you get the chance, check P.E.I. out, {preferably in the spring, summer, or fall}.
